Embarassed By My Own Natural Reaction

I’ve been thinking lately, I’m pretty embarrassed over my own feelings for bebe. No, I don’t doubt my devotion to her, but rather, my feelings for her have grown.. uh… rather strong. Until a while ago, I’ve had pretty strong emotions for bebe and stuff, but I’ve always tried to suppress my “other” feelings for her. My feelings for her not only have gone from emotional, but even now physical/sexual. When I say I feel sexual towards her, it doesn’t mean I want to throw her on the bed and start having my way with her, but it means I get excited by the thought of her.I know these are pretty normal feelings, particularly for a guy… but it’s embarrassing for me.

My fav type of huggles!!

Bebe, unlike other girls I’ve been with, isn’t one who is the touchy-touchy type or enjoy physical intimacy in a relationship. Hopefully in time I’ll break that barrier and she’ll not only “accept” physical intimacy, but also embrace and enjoy it. I’ve been so happy with how things are going between us lately… the only thing that has bothered me that I’m trying to get over is what I just spoke about, the lack of physical comfort. Even when I talk about just wanting to hug her… she gets all quiet on me or just ignores me. It makes me hurt a bit, but then I keep reminding myself she just needs to experience once before she knows how comforting it is. I mean hugging isn’t exactly a “oh-my-god, he did what?!!” type of move… I would even dare say that hugs for the most part are not highly-sexual in nature. Bebe still seems very avoiding of physical contact and it sort of bugs me, and I’m sure she’s aware of it… but I want to do as much as possible to melt that barrier. Why is it so hard? I need to understand… sigh.

Nevertheless, I think about how much my feelings for her have grown. One might wonder why being excited over your own girl might be so unusual and it’s not, but when I think of her and become excited, it’s not even because I’m thinking of dirty things about her. I don’t think about her nude, I don’t think about her doing sexy things, I simply think about her and I already get excited and horny over her. WHY?!! I don’t even think sexual thoughts about her, how can I get sexually excited?! I mean, I could completely blame just being male and that’s why, but usually I have to think about a girl sexually before I even get excited, but with bebe, I just think about how beautiful of a person she is, inside and out, that it gets me all riled up over her.

PERVERT - Only you could see something other than a mouse

When I talk to bebe, I swear, my eyes glaze over, I get hot inside and I start to swoon over her. She’s SO DAMN HOT… and since when, I ask myself. When I first saw her, I just seen her as “just the average Asian girl”… small, cute and lovable, but I could not recall when I began to just drool over her… I think I need a bib. I’m starting to believe that the way you view physical attraction changes over time as you get to know a person better. Suddenly things about their personality, helps amplify their physical beauty as well… in other words, beauty is also an acquired taste. I hope that in time, I will become more attractive in bebe’s eyes… I’m not even concerned about how others view me now, as long as bebe views me in a positive light. I’m not hoping that she’ll see me as not having any faults, but to learn to love me for who I am. If I can see her as being more beautiful over time, then surely, she can see me as being more handsome over time. I hate to think that because she’s doesn’t “like the way I look” that it prevents her from being physically-close to me.

Some girls also look even hotter when they’re angry and ferocious. I was watching a TVB series today called When Lanes Merge (情越雙白線)… and there’s couple of scenes where she’s angry and ferocious, she looks so frigging amazing. Bebe can look a mixture of scary and totally drooltastic when she has her “angry look” on… 😆 – In all reality, I think I can find perfection in every look she has, haha… could be her best or her worse and I still say it’s great XD

So tomorrow, I’m finally headed out on a beautiful 18-hour flight to Hong Kong. I’m excited to see my family! On the topic of my blog, I’ve already marked a few feminine hygiene items worthy of purchase and testing while I’m there 😀 In fact, this week there is a Kotex Whites Slim w/ Wings XX-Long on sale @ ParkNShop ($20.90HKD/pack) this week which I’m hoping to get a chance to snatch up before it ends! I’ll be hunting for some good deals so I can test them while I’m there and also, I’m sure my friend Amy has some presents waiting for me already 😆 I already know that as I mention this, she is going to ask me “Is Bebe going to buy some for you when she comes back?!!” ‘cuz she’s been asking for a while, haha. Well, I guess we’ll find out whether bebe remembers to get me a souvenir (although very different than what most people get, LOL)… I’ll update as soon as I get a chance, especially if I get some pictures of Asia’s superior pads/tampons! 🙂 Cheers and enjoy your holidays everyone.

‘Always Me’ – New P&G Women’s Mobile Application

Lookie what I found today on the news 😛 Looks like I’m going to have to download it on my iPhone and see how good it is 😀 But… I’m too tired right now, so enjoy the article and I’ll update on it later with what neato (or non-neato) things I find! 😆 I’m telling you though, I still do rather like the customized calendar that I built for myself, haha. The below article is an excerpt of the original information from a website and I am not the author of it…

It’ll be pretty interesting to see what menstruating women think of this!

New P&G Women’s Mobile Application Turns Focus to ‘Always Me’

P&G Always® Brand Co-Creates Customized Period and Ovulation Application with the Help of Experts

PR Newswire

CINCINNATI, Nov. 9, 2010

CINCINNATI, Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Always, the leader in feminine protection, just launched its Always Me™ mobile application – a comprehensive and unique period and ovulation tracker. The application was designed with input from a select group of women-focused Web site editors, bloggers and female health experts to help satisfy a fundamental need for women.  Not just a standard period and ovulation tracker, the Always Me application is a personalized, on-the-go application that helps women manage their cycles and offers timely support and advice.

“A key motivator for us was the reality that while all women establish daily routines and different ways to manage their monthly cycles, they are also looking for solutions to help make their lives a little easier,” said Courtney Schuster, Always Global Brand Manager. “In an age where our phones connect us to our family, friends and on-demand content, we created the Always Me mobile app to help women stay connected with their bodies in a current, customizable way.”

Throughout life, a woman will inevitably have questions regarding her monthly cycle and want to have that information instantly at her fingertips. One of the unique features of Always Me is a personalized question and answer function to address any personal or intimate questions that she may have.  Consumers can submit a question related to their menstrual cycle, and a health professional will provide a timely answer within 24 hours.  Now available for free download in the Apple iTunes Store, Always Me features the following:

  • Comprehensive, interactive tracker and calendar to help manage a woman’s period/cycle
  • Personalized, expert Q&A function for users to submit private, personal questions
  • “Shop Always” button for discreet, immediate and direct online purchase of Always feminine hygiene products from one’s mobile device as well as a store locator
  • Reminder notifications for anticipated arrival of period or ovulation
  • Tips on topics ranging from how to better manage one’s cycle, health matters, exercise, etc.
  • Compatible with the iTouch™, iPad™ and iPhone™

As part of the co-creation process, P&G provided a preview of the application to key influencers, including OB/GYNs, female cycle experts, women’s media and bloggers.  Influencers reviewed the application to test functionality and provided comments on their user experience.

Looking ahead, P&G has plans to expand the mobile application to include a wide range of useful information and tips for various aspects of a woman’s life, including skin, hair and beauty care – areas that can be affected during a women’s monthly cycle. Always Me will continue to evolve as a resource for women, and consumer ratings and feedback will influence upgraded versions.

Announcements

Oct 18, 2011:  It’s hard for me to update my media section because of how crappy the WordPress system is for embedding videos and such. I’ve offset to a lot of my work directly to my Youtube channel. There aren’t a lot of uploads from me, but it’s a great repository for menstrual related videos which I’ve compiled in my “Favorites” and “Playlists”. I’ve also taken the time to update my Locker Room as it has been a while since I’ve taken an accurate count of all the products that have passed by MiM’s hands and with the participation of many of my girls to get accurate reviews for my site. I recommend all my pad-loving guys n’ girls out there to check out Lunapads as a great alternative to our bodily interest and environment! 🙂

Incognito Samples Are Here!

For those who have read one of my previous reviews and hypes about Incognito pads, found rarely in Ontario – you’ll be happy to know that this Quebec-grown company is now spreading their influence outside of their local province. The sample looks really cool as it gives a variety of products for you to test, including pantiliners, ultra thin pads and tampons – along with a pamphlet. Included is also a tin carrying case which is similar to the Kotex Luxe lines found in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines. Although the sample itself is for young-women as their “First Period Kit”, it’s still a great way for post-menarche women to test out a new product that may lead you down to exploring and switching to some of Incognito’s great products!

Better jump on the offer and get your free sample today! From the last update of my previous entry, Incognito now has TWENTY NINE (29) products, ranging from pantiliners, ultra thin pads, maxi pads, tampons and feminine cleansing cloths. Unlike most of the “brand-name” pads in North America, a few of their products not only act as a form of menstrual protection, but is also capable of dealing with light incontinence and one for maternity use.

Although it has been a while since I’ve bought and tested any Incognito products, it has definitely proven to have a lasting, positive impression – everything from the innovative channel designs, elastic side-guards, body contour, comfort, absorbency and of course, affordability! Incognito may still be rather evasive in stores, but I’ve read that it can be purchased (outside of Quebec) at Walmart, but have yet to verify this. I’m not a big fan of Walmart myself, but I’ll make sure I put it on my “to do” list and check it out. However, Giant Tiger stores do stock Incognito and their prices doesn’t make your head spin.

I also found a coupon that doesn’t expire until the end of this year! I’m not sure how many stores will take these printable coupons, so better find out ahead of time or if you’re willing to take a shot at it either way. I have not verified whether this coupon is accepted and whether it’s usable outside of Quebec… so if you find something out, please let me know.

For your convenience, the $1-off coupon is provided above, however, I recommend you check out their awesome new site anyways! The official company coupon can be found here.

I have to say, while their site isn’t as interactive and engaging as other large sites hosted by Always/Tampax or Kotex – I did read through many of their sections and enjoyed the layout and content of it, short, simple and yet, effective. The “floating box” they have on the left side that changes with each section/refresh cycle gives some new insight on every page you navigate through, including the ability to “add a comment” to a particular pop-up or even “love” the information (probably to simulate the LIKE button of Facebook). The Q&A sections need some work as it could use a bit more info and all.

The biggest thing you will probably notice is the site (in my opinion) hasn’t been fully converted and some things still appear in French, in their English version of the page. For the most part though, all main body content has been changed, but some title texts haven’t. Nevertheless, I guess they have all the right to still honour their native language! Under the personalized tools section, there’s also a simple period calendar to help you predict your menstrual cycle. It’s a bit unfortunate that unlike other tampon makers that they didn’t include any pictures to understand the concept of tampon insertion as it can be a very foreign thing for girls who’ve just started their period and don’t understand how it works. I understand information like this will probably be included in the tampon box as well in the usual fold-ups, but it’d be nice to have something like this on the website as well for a “one-stop shop.”

For those who have access to a Giant Tiger, give Incognito a shot! Poke around some smaller stores, home-grown shops and MAYBE even Walmart and you never know what you’ll find. I can’t imagine that Incognito hasn’t become popular yet given their great products and as my dedicated reader Andie says, it’s “made in Canada” and that’s important in helping our economy and local manufacturers 😀

Recently, I’ve noticed in my eBay updates that there are more and more sellers offering sanitary napkins from other countries, particularly from Asia. I’m happy to see this and perhaps one day soon, shipping of those pads from those countries won’t be super-expensive. I’ve seen some shipping prices down to $4.99-6.99 which isn’t all too bad, however, you never know if you’re going to get nailed at customs so it’s best to buy them in smaller quantities. The last time I wanted to get some Laurier and Sofy pads shipped from Malaysia and Kotex Whites from Hong Kong, it was like $20 shipping for a $3 pack of pads, lol, talk about nuts. I was like, “Are you kidding me?” … especially when the item is not exactly “heavy.” Still, I understand something traveling half-way across the world is not cheap, but surely, there needs to be some economical options!

On a final note before closing for the night, I do believe Costco has jumbo boxes of Playtex Tampons (84) regular or super coupon for $3.20 off from the original price of $15.59 – or $12.39 post-coupon. I actually only know one girl who uses Playtex, so I guess not many of my girls will benefit from this, but have to be fair and spread the news anyways!

In the No Frills (ON) Sept. 3-9, 2010 flyer, Always Maxi pads (12-24 ct.) are advertised for $2.97. If you have the Save $2 when you buy one Always Ultra or Maxi (24-48 ct.) from brandsaver.ca then you pay only $0.97 for the Maxi (24 ct.). The picture in the coupon is the Ultra kind, which is green, but those aren’t the ones on sale for $2.97. Make sure you pick up the Maxi kind (blue package, 24 ct.) pictured above, which is also covered by the coupon.

Thanks to cesme77 for posting the flyer for us!

Then the following is my own find on eBay for “Sanitary Pads for Night” which appear to be the Korean-version of Whisper pads. Of course if you have more information on this or can confirm/deny this, please feel free to let me know and you will be credited!

Korean Whisper Sanitary NapkinsThis seller is selling both the 32cm and 41cm versions of it and you can see more info in the pad absorbency chart he/she provides…

Korean Whisper Pad Absorbency OffersThe reason why I was so particular in posting this wasn’t because I’m affiliated with the seller, but because this is one of the few sellers who I’ve seen to have reasonable shipping prices on maxi pads/tampons exported from Asia. Normally, the shipping fees are ridiculous for Whisper, Sofy, Laurier, Kotex or Stayfree pads outside of the local vicinity. International flat-rate shipping on a pack of pads is only $2.00 USD! Although the pads themselves aren’t cheap and may be why they can offer such a low shipping rate, it is $6 a pack and only contains 8 pieces. However, I would reckon if they’re similar to the Whisper Overnights sold in HK – they may very well be of same quality! If anyone ever gets these, please let me know what you think of them. I believe the seller is only offering both overnight pads with wings and does not have ones without. Of course if you have any questions, please direct them to the eBay seller and not me since I don’t know anything more than what is posted!

That’s it for tonight – can’t think right now, too much on my mind!

Always Maxi Pads Overnight Extra Heavy Flow Review (20ea)

*our best all night protection*
*notre meilleure protection pour toute la nuit*

“unique heavy nights design
conception unique pour les nuits de flux abondant

“Our Longest Pad (15 inches)”
“Notre serviette la plus longue (38 centimètres)”

“Raised core helps fit your body
“Le centre surélevé s’ajuste mieux à votre corps

Extra Wide Back for Night Protection”
Très grande couvrance à l’arrière pour une protection de nuit”

Holy, that’s one hell of a title eh (Ended up shortening it, full name below)? So here you have it folks, finally the long-awaited (or well I hope long-awaited) review of the Always Extra Heavy Overnight Maxi Pads with Flexi Wings (Name officially defined by P&G)! I should mention upfront to my Canadian readers that I have yet to find a local retailer who stocks this product, so you will have to import it from the U.S. just as I have. Even looking on the Always Canada site, you will not find this product mentioned as the highest absorbency which Always makes in Canada is the “Maximum Protection” (red wrapper) ones. I have always found the Maximum Protection one already quite amazing with the coverage area and absorbency rate, but could not fathom them making anything even thicker and longer. Suffice to say, I’ve only seen pads made in Asia have such excess length – guess Proctor & Gamble finally caught up with the times!

Of course you can’t hear it in my voice, but I’m absolutely ecstatic to have opened my package today (which arrived Friday and picked up yesterday) to find the entire order fulfilled properly and clearing customs with no extra changes as promised by the company/courier. What’s more amazing is the site of these packages that I’ve been researching for ages now since they hit-the-shelves in the U.S. but have never had the opportunity to explore beyond what I find on the internet 😦 Well, I can finally turn that frown upside-down into a 🙂 now!

As excited I am about these pads, they did come with a hefty price tag (or am I just a typical cheap-Asian?). For a pack of 20, these cost me (not including shipping/taxes) $7.45CAD each. The reason why I make note of the currency of CAD is that these products are originally in USD. Henceforth, all dollar values should be considered as CAD unless otherwise stated. For those who follow my blog, you will know that I consider it absolutely ridiculous to pay $7.45 for pads, especially when there are only 20 of them per pack. However, what kind of menstrual blogger would I be if I didn’t man-up sometimes and just bite-the-bullet and buy something expensive for the sake of my readers?

I bought 4 of them and you might ask me why I would waste more money than I already have. First, the shipping is a flat-rate, therefore whether I buy one pack or four, it costs the same amount. Second, I like to share pads/tampons I get with some of my girls so they can help me test them out and just to spoil them every once in a while with “something new.” Third, there was a $4 off coupon for a purchase of 4 or more Always products! I also got lucky and managed to find there was also an additional $1 off coupon for select Always products and this happened to be one of them! For the sake of calculation however, let’s disregard these coupons and do it at face-value. I understand this will be cheaper for those who reside in the U.S. (because of cheaper taxes, shipping and currency), especially if they buy it in-bulk and in local retailers versus us having to order internationally. Each package contains 20 pads and at the rate of $7.45 a package, each pad is 37 cents each. On one of my prior reviews on the U by Kotex – Overnight Pads “All Nighter” I already complained at the fact that they were 32 cents each, so you can imagine how long I contemplated before clicking on the [Confirm Order] button!

All the pictures in this post also link to the “full sized” version, although I took them at 12MP quality I scaled it down so that way it wouldn’t eat up my site’s space allocation or people’s bandwidth. The pictures have been scaled to an “acceptable” but “high quality” resolution for your viewing pleasure!

Packing List - Contains 4 packages of "Always Maxi Pads, Overnight with Flexwings, Heavy"

This box was shipped to my workplace, so you can imagine me rolling my eyes when I noticed the words “Flexiwings, Heavy” hanging visibly off the side of the packing slip. One would imagine they’d take a bit more care to ensure privacy of their customers – but obviously not. Either the mail-room lady didn’t notice or didn’t care, but luckily beforehand I did a bit of lying and told her I “have a shipment coming for my cousin” – LOL.. it’s a good thing I think ahead eh? I thought at least if my box ever had to be opened to be checked, at least it’d be a good alibi, harhar. Actually I don’t think it was a big deal only because the lady at work sees enough packages going through her she doesn’t even care. Some people might wonder why I’d send it to work given the “risk” – but it’s because there’s not someone home all the time to receive (while there is at work 24/7) and because having it delivered to my work is actually safer than to my own house. My mom has this habit of going through my stuff and being nosy, so I’m sure if I had to shipped to my house, she would have opened it 🙄

*Not an advertisement* This is where I got it from for guys n' girls who might be interested (Drugstore.com)

And then finally, after a long awaited weekend + 1 day, I finally got to open my box of treasures:

4 Packs of Always Extra Heavy Overnight pads arriving safe & sound

I think that package has a pretty nice design and suffice to say, it’s a very “feminine” type look – reminding women that purple is supposed to be a “girly” colour. Given that this particular package was targeted for the U.S., they writing appeared in English, French and Spanish. I must say that this is one of the nicer colours used by Always as it’s a nice cross of purple and lavender.

For vertical placement on shelving units

For vertical placement on shelving units

For horizontal placement on shelving units

For horizontal placement on shelving units

I must say the design of the package is pretty cool as it can be placed vertically and horizontally on shelves while maintaining a visible presence on the shelves. The above pictures aren’t a play-on-images but in fact, the pad package is designed for fittings of both arrangements which is fairly ingenious. Both methods of shelving placement allows the same information to be displayed towards the customer.

The picture starting from the left is the top-view of the pad package which displays some features of the pad along with a catchy slogan. On the side is a “plastic window” which allows you to see the contents of the package along with contact information and their self-promotion about their Protecting Futures campaign in Africa. On the opposite side there’s more information pertaining to the a “meter” of different absorbency, instructions on how to apply/dispose the product, manufacturer date and as well as the fact it’s “Made in Taiwan” (which is interesting). I should mention while almost all convention pads should not be flushed (obviously as indicated by the instructions), these pads are larger than normal ones so you’re almost setting yourself up to get a clog! The last picture is just the UPC code and branding.

Always Extra Heavy Overnight Pad in full wrapper format

Always Extra Heavy Overnight Pad in wrapper tab-side

This has been one of the smoothest wrappers that Always has made (that I have laid my hands on) and very similar to the Whisper ones I have found in Hong Kong. While it looks like the typical ones made by Always for the regular, super, overnight, it actually has more of a soft, powdery-type feel to it. When the pad is enclosed in the wrapper, it measures 10cm x 15cm and quite thick, although easily concealable within a bag/purse/pocket.

Always Extra Heavy Overnight Pad half opened Always Extra Heavy Overnight Pad fully opened

Most of the Always pads in the self-peeling wrappers take about 2 pulls to open with 3 folds total. However, with the Always Extra Heavy Overnight pad, it actually requires 3 pulls with 4 folds total, one tucked underneath the 3rd-fold. For some, it may be cumbersome to open, but the packaging method allows it to retain the same “form” as the pads in the same line of products and is what most women who use Always are familiar with. Furthermore, the thickness is not tremendously affected by the additional length and the extra fold and is a great way not to have to generate any additional waste to compensate for the greater length of the pad. The pad itself is a lengthy 38cm or 15 inches long!

The above pictures depict the wings of the pad being revealed by gently removing the top-side adhesive strip either towards the back or front of the pad (bi-directional removal). While I mentioned that it is possible for the removal of the strip in both directions, it’s naturally designed for removal from the “front-to-back” as shown in the left-hand picture. The second picture is simply a close-up of the wings revealed as a result of the removal of adhesive strip. The top-side adhesive strip when removed is 25cm long and 7cm wide.

In order to display the wings in a fully-extended fashion, I had to let the adhesive come in contact with the wrapper. Let’s just say the wings are great because it’ll adhere well to fabric! Removing the wings off the wrapper afterward was a pain, which means you can rest assured that the wings will help keep the pad secured to prevent bunching or shifting. The wings are a great size as well, plenty to wrap around the crotch of conventional panties or undergarment. The coverage area from the tip of one wing to another is 16.5cm and considered the “middle” of the pad (where the vaginal opening would be directly above if placed well). The raised core also helps conform to the shape of your body and reduce the gap between the pad and your body, thus, the flow will be intercepted quicker and prevent back-flow or side leaks (unless completely saturated). The design of the pad based on the channels are to prevent the bulk of the absorption in the middle (thickest area), with side-walls prevent leaks off the edges and to channel anything the middle can’t catch towards the back. I take it that the minute holes distributed also helps with absorption speed versus amount which the material underneath takes care of and allows a degree of air-flow for comfort.

What I also noticed was that it tackle odour excellently! Even upon great saturation the pad did not emit its own smell (the material) nor did it emit any other foul odour which may emanate from the pad. This is a big surprize as one would think a pad designed for such heavy flow would undoubtedly be unable to contain the smell – however, this was not the case! This is a big advantage for women who not only have heavy flows, but also flows that you rather not have everyone around you smelling. What added to my surprize over the odour-control was the fact the pad is unscented – so obviously the designers did a great job in that respects.

This is the front portion of the Always Extra Heavy Overnight Maxi Pad. The front at its greatest width measure 12cm. Having listened to some feedback, I have heard that given the entire size of the pad, the narrowness of the front was not tremendously accommodating, however, it does provide sufficient coverage, especially because menstrual flow tends to travel backwards (towards the butt) so large coverage area towards the front may not be as heavily required. However, this irked some people since the whole point of this pad was to be the “ultimate overnight protection.” Suffice to say, with the pad placed properly – aligning the winged/centre area directly underneath the vaginal opening will allow speedy and maximum absorption for menstrual flow. I found that flow when directly expelled on the raised-core area was absorbed extremely fast and kept the top of the pad dry. The wings were not a hindrance to the pad’s ability to keep the flow locked in the centre of the core.

To the right of this paragraph is the rear portion of the pad which boasts a one-of-a-kind flanged back coverage, which looks winged-like. The “rear wings” do have some capacity for adhesives and it’s necessary for them to be placed properly on panties/undergarment for maximum effect. I have mixed reviews about these rear wings because they may act as an irritant and also hard to get one, although once aligned and placed, it acts to further ensure the pad does not shift or bunch and will conform to body movement, particularly during night time. The widest part of the rear measures a hefty 17cm!

Always Extra Heavy Overnight Pad Thickness ~1cm

Always Extra Heavy Overnight Pad Thickness ~1cm

Given the thickness of the pad at approximately 1cm, it would be assumed that the pad is utterly uncomfortable. While the pad itself would not be considered “thin” by any means, I can certainly say that for such a high thickness level, it is not very noticeable. The picture itself does no justice since it doesn’t really represent it well, but serves only as an FYI or to satisfy an inquisitive mind as to how thick the pad really is and how could a review be complete without such information anyways? The sides of the pad are stitched well and I did not find any great flaws which may indicate poor quality or a potential leak hazard.

Always Extra Heavy Overnight remainder of the pad wrapper

Here lies the remainder of the pad wrapper, measuring a length of 44cm!! I must say, the overall review of this pad is fantastic, everything from the comfort to the protection it provides. Although the absorbency is comparable to that of the Always Infinity line, the texture of this pad is better than the Infinity. Where the Infinity had a paper-thin and Infinicel lock-in gel, this pad has a larger coverage area in-mind. Although I been accustomed to seeing the “cottony cover” design by Always (although it always feels plasticky), this pad had a very gracious feel against skin whether dry or wet. The absorbency was incredible as well for a “classic” pad line (non-Infinity) and would leave the top-cover dry almost immediately while providing comfortable air-flow. Furthermore, odour was contained well in the pad.

The length of this pad may be of concern for women (or flow-lovers) of smaller stature – however, it’s undoubtedly the leading pad in North/South America in terms of length and thickness (feel free to let me know if you find others) available. This pad other than for general overnight use is great for post-maternity. I can say I’m completely satisfied with my purchase, even though it came with a price tag that’d hurt most people’s wallet (or well, my credit card for the time being). The rear of this pad can be a bit of a bother if it’s not fully adhered to panties/ungarment as they tend to come up and may scratch against your bottom. Also, the pad takes a bit of getting used to since most people aren’t use to have something wrap all the way up (or at least half-way up) their butts either, unless you’re a frequent user of Sofy or Elis pads that go that far. Simply said for larger-sized women and those who experience tremendous amounts of flow during the night or day, this is a great product to try! If you’re looking for thin and discrete comfort, this is definitely not your pad – but if you’re looking for reliable and long-lasting protection, this is it!

The amount this pad is capable of absorbing before it even begins to show visible signs of saturation is huge. Even when saturated, it holds fluid in very well and keeps the top-cover cool and comfortable. At “later stages” of over-saturation though, my only concern would be the fact the material within the pad at the rear seems to move forward (towards the stomach) a bit, leaving the rear of the pad a bit dangly. This only happened under intense movement such as sports, rapid leg movements (fast-walk) and lots of sitting/standing. Nevertheless, even with all these movements pitted against the pad, there were not even signs of leaks. You don’t see many pads available which offer the rear flared protection like this pad does! Wetness barely even came above the surface under this instance, leaving a very positive overall impression.

The comfort level, albeit the length and thickness, is pristine and there is no abrasion caused by the top-cover of the pad. Like most pads, there are potentially people who may be allergic to the material and composition, but have not seem any cases at-large or experienced any rashing/itchiness through my experimentation. The weight of the pad is questionable for comfort, although if you look at the pad and actually pick it up to feel the weight, it’s considerably less than one might assume. For the size of the pad, I would definitely consider this “lightweight material” which is quite impressive. The wings easily said (both middle and rear) helps keep the pad in place and moves along with your body comfortably.

I can only smile and give me thumbs-up in approval of the Always Extra Heavy Overnight Maxi Pads with Flexi Wings. Don’t count on your boyfriend not being able to see that you’re having your period, but you can bet it’ll keep you safe throughout the night or on those really heavy days as I’ve seen reports of some women and even a woman I know who uses these regularly throughout her period. Obviously for some, practicality rules over the comfort of thin pads – but you can bet this one provides you with a sense of security, not only because of the thought itself, but the feeling of physical security knowing that something is there to catch almost anything you can throw at it! This is a great replacement pad as well for women who need to use multiple pads (at a time) during their period to get enough coverage or those who resorted to using incontinence pads large enough to absorb their flow. I understand many women going through menopause also suffer from sporadically heavy flows which this pad may alleviate the stress you endure from worries about leakage.

I hope potential users of this product (or maybe even current ones) have found this review to be useful and will help you make a well-informed decision on whether you want to try or continue using this product! Once again, this is a review for the Always Extra Heavy Overnight Maxi Pads with Flexi Wings purchased at www.drugstore.com shipped to Canada, getting the thumbs up from your friends & authors @ MEN in Menstruation!

Ya... 'cuz you know, women just have a happy period all the time 🙂

I’ve been hunting for (Original) Kotex sales for a while now… still only 2 so far and it isn’t really a “great deal”… I suppose 2.50/ea @ SDM is not too bad if I buy two. Guess I’ll check it out, see what they have and perhaps get some! The stock is running low, don’t want to let it hit rock-bottom 😛

U by Kotex – Overnight Pads “All Nighter” Review

For those of you who knew, I happily acquired the new “U by Kotex” yesterday and I hope for those who follow along, are excited to see this post!

At around 1:30 yesterday, I hoped on to a nearby Sobeys by work and picked it up. It was well-noted that on the shelves were a fairly small section dedicated to this new line of Kotex products. Certainly, I can imagine that they chose to be conservative with their stock, not knowing whether this new line would sell well. It does boast a hefty price of $4.49 (4.99 at other local retailers) for a mere 14 pads if you’re buying the overnight versions. There were fewer sales for pads and even less for the pantiliners. However, either the female populace who lives around the area are avid tampon users or for whatever reason, there was a huge hole in the shelving stock for the new “U” tampons. I must say, throughout my many experiences with feminine hygiene shopping, I can say in my area that the pads section tend to be the ones that are cleaned out, not tampons.

Funky little designs on the box... not that it matters 'cuz hey, I ain't eating it or anything!

I didn’t take long to find the one I wanted, however, it definitely took extra time (a few seconds? LOL) as opposed to my easily-spotted absorbency of all the other brands – yes, this is I must say, the only brand I’ve ever needed to do a “double-take” to make sure I got the right version. True enough this is my first time buying it and I do not have prior experience to rely on to locate the right one easily, BUT, the assortment of packages look very similar that it be inadvisable to just grab it and assume you got the right one without reading it. I picked up the “U by Kotex All-Nighter” (“Overnight” equivalent). On the way out, I noticed that at the register, the cashier charged me $4.99 instead of $4.49 as stated in the flyer. She assured me it was $4.99 and I disagreed, showing her the flyer I still had on-hand.

I did notice as I was making the purchase, the tag on the shelf did say $4.99 which I thought was weird, but took nothing of it. I asked for her to verify the price in the flyer as it clearly says $4.49. I have a feeling she thought that because I am male, that I would not be inclined in making a stand – trust me, I did and I stood there with the box of pads right on top of the scanner without even turning a shade of a red. I guess whoever she asked did inform her that it was $4.49 and she proceeded with the purchase… BUT oh wait, she also noticed I had an e-coupon for $1.50 off on any U by Kotex product. Of course I know there are retailers who give a hassle for printed-coupons so she again, had to verify with a manager. She came back, rang it through and I got what I wanted at the price intended, $3.14 after taxes.

FYI… you can click on the pics to get an enlarged version (although limited resolution with my iPhone camera)

As you can see, there are just way too many damn colours on the box, lol. The first picture also shows that the pads are all individually wrapped in a bunch of funky colours and unlike the usual where most brands have all the same colour to either specify their brand or absorbency. Of course, the “purple” colour is to indicate the overnight pad size, but still it is much less of an indicator compared to say – the all green colouring of the Always Super pads. As you can see, for 14 pads @ $4.49 (without coupon discount) means you’re talking about almost 32 cents per pad and that’s not with taxes in! On each side of the box has a variety of useful information such as the wide range of available “U” products, pads, tampons and liners and their respective absorbency, features of the product, a fact/myth section and usage instructions. The thing that caught my eye was, “Made in China” – oh dear, should I assume lots of accidents are going to result from this? LOL… I kid.

As you can see the box open from the top and originally, the flaps are “sticky sealed” against each other, however, can then be resealed using the “slits”. Once you open the box, each pad is vibrantly coloured and each wrapper has a notable “U” Kotex logo on them. From the feel, the wrappers are a smooth-plasticky feel, however, very light and thin. Nevertheless, given that these are overnights, there certainly is quite a bit of size to them, so I would assume maybe the smaller CleanWear versions are a bit more compact. After opening the box, as I mentioned, it can be resealed by taking the top fold of the box and putting it into the slit of the lower one – thus making for a great resealable packaging. A single overnight pad within the wrapper is 13 X 15.5 cm

And here’s a close-up of the pad wrapper… Ok ok, sorry about the wrinkles, crookedness and awkward colour-tone because my camera didn’t like the “shininess” of all the different colours it started really warping the tones, haha.

And the what everyone’s been waiting for, some nice shots of the pad itself…

The first picture depicts a half-opened state of the pad/wrapper. As you can see, these wrappers are hard to reseal a used pad in for disposal. The pad adhesive is stuck on a centre strip which is part of the wrapper itself, very akin to Always pads. The pad design is a very typical curvature of their regular Kotex line – I did not see much difference in that. However, the “pores” of the pad which are intended to quickly trap the wetness in the pad was definitely more dominant. I can definitely say the speed of which wetness was trapped in was amazingly fast – a very good thing for those who experience “stand-up, sit-down” gushes or do not wish to feel the dampness when as menstrual flow is coming out onto the pad. In the second picture, it is simply the wrapper/pad flipped face-down and as you can see, part of the pad and centre-strip actually “sticks out” from the end. I’m not sure what the intent of this design is, although I suppose it may act as a “grasping point”. In the third picture, we finally have a full-blown view of the pad itself. The wings are secured to be stickers, which are affixed to each other like the typical Kotex’s. I’m not sure why they have not adopted a single-sticky like Always, but hey, whatever works! Also note that the designs on the pad (especially the sticky-side) and wings are extremely bold and I’ve noticed when disposed in the garbage, they definitely do “stand out” compared to regular pads, haha.

Here’s some zooms for the pad, from front to back. Some measurement FYI’s… the pad itself is 30 cm’s long, with the front of the pad measuring 10 cm‘s at the widest point. In the middle, when the wings are not extended (and folded in), it measures 9 cm‘s and a hefty 13 cm‘s at the widest point in the back. During overnight, many girls experience leaks towards the rear, mainly due the gravity being at play and the wider coverage will hopefully “soak up the flow” before it goes off an edge. With the speed of absorbency though, I would not see it as being a particular problem it needs to address, although playing it safe never hurts.

Close-up of the "front" of the pad - it is narrower at the front to channel flow towards the rear

Close-up of the "middle" of the pad (wings/adhesive still intact)

Close-up of the "rear" of the pad - the wider back to protect against leakage

I’ll have to say, after thorough testing of the product, I was neither amazed nor disappointed with it. Let’s just say, unless getting a product with wacky looks is your thing, it isn’t worth the extra dollars you’re putting in (unless they decide to do a price-drop). It definitely is thin, although comparable versions such as Stayfree DryMax or even their own Ultra Thin Kotex lines should be able to match this thinness and if it doesn’t match it, at least the difference is not great enough to justify the additional cost.

In terms of comfort, it was quite comfortable and it is light against the skin, unlike the traditional plasticky top-sheet like Always. However, because the “siding” (as you can see from the pictures) often hangs loose, those who have more sensitive skin might describe it as being ticklish or bothersome to them, having it rub up against their skin unnecessarily. What it nice about this product is I’ve noticed that their absorbing “pores” extend completely from front-to-back and there isn’t a “cut off” point on the pad itself, therefore, there is still a “last line of defense” from flow because going off the pad and it might just be very-well the thing that keeps you clean from experiencing a leak instead!

The absorbency capacity is quite large, although once it becomes highly saturated, you do run into an issue where the top-layer definitely does not feel as dry and the surface becomes slightly damp. Again, for those who may be extra sensitive, this “pooling” feeling might be an issue. What I find however, is that unlike many other pads, the “U” distribute flow throughout the rest of the pad very well, which means you don’t (or shouldn’t) run into a scenario where one portion of your pad is heavier than the other and thus encourages build-up and leaks. Unfortunately, it is perhaps this distribution of fluid that it keeps the wetness a bit “surfaced”. Even an intense concentration of flow in a particular area after a while will dissipate itself throughout. When you remove a saturated pad, you will feel it is “evenly balanced”. I think I did mention that the draw-in rate is quite fast and although it immediately makes you feel dry, I have a feeling it does “flow back up” a bit once it has been sitting for a while. Nevertheless, the wetness on top is not indicative to me as an unacceptable problem as every pad I would imagine has a degree of wetness at the top, it’s just a matter of how much and whether it is to the point where it bothers you.

Now it comes down to the adhesive, both at the bottom of the pad and the wings. The adhesive at the bottom of the pad is quite sticky and will adhere to underwear well. I will definitely give a thumbs-up for the fact the pad operates very well under conditions of rapid movement, activity and is resistant to bunching both when dry and wet. Because of also how well it stays on the underwear, it is also capable of conforming to movements of your body and thus, keeping it close to you to keep you leak-free. I must say however, the adhesives do not go completely front to back, which means I found tendencies for the pad extreme front and extreme rear to possibly “come up” which might result in peeling off the underwear in the most unfortunate of cases. The wings were definitely secure and so secure that even a single misplacement might mean it makes it very hard to “re-place” it. I accidentally wrinkled it a bit and I can tell you it stayed wrinkled until I threw it in the garbage. Like the previous complaint before, I did find that the wings because the adhesives weren’t 100% covering that it exhibited a “peeling” action towards the edges, which might mean a possibility of the wings becoming undone if the motions are just right. Each of these scenarios are rare, but I thought I’d bring it to light anyways.

And above is the look of the wing when the sticky-tabs are pulled off with the remainder of the wrapper when the pad is fully removed. The centre core of the pad is very similar to the regular Kotex line of pads, including even the line-designs and such.

While I do think that the pad itself does not “revolutionize” menstrual hygiene and such as it doesn’t have anything amazing like the Always Infinity Infinicel (or does it and I don’t know about it?), the whole idea of Breaking the Cycle and bringing openness towards the topic of menstruation for males and females is great! I certainly hope that more men will become aware, educated and helpful when it comes towards dealing with their menstruating family and friends alike!

U by Kotex – Here We Come!

Just a little teaser for some of my readers to stay tuned! Sure enough, I was lucky enough to find the new “U” by Kotex pads, liners and tampons at a different Sobeys – since the one by my house lied. I could technically post the review for today since I already have all the pictures and information – but, I prefer to create a bit of suspense once in a while 😛 Although I’m hoping to get an actual menstrual review of this, looks like you will just have to deal with me and take my word for it for the time being 😀 I assure you my testing methods are quite thorough and proprietary, LOL. Like all my reviews, they’re my (male) personal opinion, so read for strictly informational and “at your own discretion” purposes.

I noticed at the particular Sobeys that there was actually a larger “hole” in the shelving stock for the tampons, compared to the pads. The liners appeared to be pretty full so looks like there weren’t that many buyers, unless they already “sealed the hole” with new stock. People were pretty relentless, probably because it is new and they are more likely to read the box contents and thus flip through the different types. However, they made a mess of things, the packages were collapsed and ones in the wrong place. To be honest, unlike other brands and even their own Kotex line of products, these ones looked “too similar” to each other, probably also because the boxes were too colourful which scrambled the basic intuition of things being easily coded/spotted. Even I took a bit of time (ok, fine… 4 seconds probably, lol) in figuring out which one was the one I wanted to get.

Heck, I won’t even mention which one I get until I create enough suspense 😆 Not that I assume I get all too many visitors unlike more popular blogs. However, that is right – ladies and gentlemen, I am currently the proud owner of my very first package of  “U by Kotex” and will provide a more detailed entry tomorrow (or maybe even the day after? lol) FYI – they did take my $1.50 off e-coupon with a bit of waiting and such for verification, but I’ll include that in my future entry! Toddles 🙂

Don’t Advertise Stuff You Aren’t Selling

Gah, went to Sobeys because I couldn’t resist the fact I was home alone and wanted to check out the new U by Kotex. As per my previous post, they were supposedly being sold for an outrageous (lol) $4.49. Given I had a save $1.50 coupon, I could bite my tongue and just suck it up – just so I can be one of the firsts to review it! When I got there, I immediately went towards the feminine hygiene aisle. You know, I can enter any store and get lost like an idiot… but I know where my FH aisles are without a second though 😆 I know with “new items” they don’t always put them in the regular aisles, so I scoured the entire store just to see if they put it in a “special display” or something but sure enough, the shelves haven’t even been moved to create space and everything was “as is”. It was quite disappointing since I did go there just for that and it wasn’t like it was “on the way” or anything… actually, probably “out of the way” at that.

My day was honestly boring, but then again, I didn’t bother finding much to do ‘cuz I know I’ll be busy tomorrow. I really did want to test out those news pads, so I’m going to try again at the Sobeys near work, in case it is a more “popular” store there that might stock a variety of items and such. My ex-ex girlfriend just teased me, telling me that she think she saw the new pads available at Rexall in Toronto Downtown… what a teasing little bitch 😀 lol. Well, hope I find it at the Sobeys near work or at one of the local stores! The coupon only lasts ’til mid-May or something, gah!

That’s it for tonight, wasn’t planning on an entry today anyways – but you got one 😛
